SHOULD I USE A GAS OR ELECTRIC FURNACE?

Winter can really take its time in coming to Texas, but come it shall. You want to be able to live comfortably during the chilliest time of the year, which is why it is important that you have a great heating system in place. To ensure that this is the case, you should really do a bit of research.

The furnace is probably the most common of all home heating systems. Even if you know that you want to use a furnace, though, there are decisions to make. For instance, will you use a gas or an electric furnace in Houston, TX?

GAS VS. ELECTRICITY

For the most part, homeowners tend to favor natural gas over electricity when it comes to the furnace. Don’t get us wrong, there are a whole lot of electric furnaces in use today. Natural gas does have a couple of benefits, though.

Unlike propane or oil, natural gas is piped directly into the home. That means that there is no need for on-site storage. Of course, you don’t have to store electricity, either.

What it tends to come down to be the affordability of natural gas. While electric furnaces are actually extremely efficient, being as that they don’t lose any heat to flue gases, they can still cost more to run than natural gas. This is due to the fact that electricity is just more expensive to purchase.

There is also the fact that not every home is set up to use natural gas, though, and while commonly used in this area, natural gas is not available everywhere. Electricity generally is.

Ultimately, the decision between a gas or electric furnace is up to you. We are happy to help you make that decision in any way we can, though. Contact our team to learn more about your furnace options.
